An International Exchange

German and international student applicants must apply for a study place through uni-assist if:

• they are applying with foreign educational credentials for a Bachelor's or Master's program,
• they did not obtain their higher education entrance qualification (HZB) in Germany or at a school following German Abitur examination regulations,
• they have completed a Studienkolleg with a successfully passed assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) in a focus course suitable for the intended program of study.

German and international student applicants do NOT need to apply for a study place through uni-assist if:

• they obtained their education entrance qualification (HZB) in Germany or at a school following German Abitur examination regulations (e.g., attendance at a German school abroad where they obtained the Abitur/general higher education entrance qualification or attendance at a European school),
• they obtained their first academic degree in Germany.

These applicants apply directly to the EHB. The application is usually submitted through the application portal according to the university's guidelines - see also detailed information on the website (section Downloads and Links below).

Higher education entrance qualification (HZB) = Certificates/educational credentials for university admission according to the "evaluation suggestions" (BV) from the Central Office for Foreign Education, published in the anabin database (external link), which correspond to an HZB or an admission qualification for the intended Bachelor's or Master's degree program.

The required proof of sufficient German language skills can be provided, for example, by:

• Passing the "German Language Examination for University Admission of Foreign Applicants - Level 2 or Level 3" (DSH-2 or DSH-3)
• The test result of the Test of German as a Foreign Language for student applicants (TestDaF) with performance level "four" (TDN 4) or "five" (TDN 5) in all four sub-tests
• The "German examination part" in the context of the certificate of the assessment test for foreign student applicants for admission to studies at universities in the Federal Republic of Germany at a German Studienkolleg ("Feststellungsprüfung")
• The "German Language Diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs - Second Level" (DSD II)
• The certificate of the passed Goethe-Certificate C2: Greater German Language Diploma (GDS)
• The Goethe-Certificate C2: Greater German Language Diploma (GDS)
• The "German Language Examination II" of the Languages and Interpreters Institute Munich
• Certificate of the passed examination "telc German C1 University"
• Proof of German language skills recognized through bilateral agreements or other agreements made by the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs and the German Rectors' Conference as sufficient language proof for admission to university studies: e.g., German proof in the French "Diplome du Baccalauréat" obtained after attending a bilingual German-French branch of a secondary school; US Advanced Placement Examination (AP Examination) in German.

In addition, student applicants are exempt from the German language examination if they can prove the language skills required for admission to studies as part of a school-leaving certificate that corresponds to a German higher education entrance qualification. The same applies to student applicants who have taken the German language examination under the organizational and content responsibility of a Studienkolleg or a German as a Foreign Language department of a German university at a foreign university.

Applies only to Bachelor's degree programs:
It is possible to apply with language level B2 (completed) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or an equivalent examination certificate. In these cases, proof of sufficient German language skills required for unrestricted admission or enrollment must be provided after enrollment. Admission would be granted in this case subject to the provision of the required proof.

The EHB does not conduct its own language examinations.

TestDaF, for example, is offered worldwide at licensed test centres and can therefore also be taken in the home country if necessary. You can find up-to-date information on TestDaF on the website of the TestDaF Institute. Foreign applicants from a member state of the European Union or another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area and foreign applicants who have acquired a German higher education entrance qualification (Bildungsinländer*innen – foreign students with a German education), i.e. a higher education entrance qualification acquired on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany or at a German school abroad, take part in the application procedure in the same way as German applicants do.

Foreign applicants who do not fall under the above-mentioned group of applicants are asked to follow the detailed instructions noted in the application and information material within the download area of the respective degree program.

If your application is based on a higher education entrance qualification obtained abroad, you must also submit proof of sufficient German language skills for admission to a degree program, latest by application deadline.

As of March 1, 2024: Application periods typically begin 6 weeks before the application deadline. Application deadlines are generally final deadlines. Please check the current information on the website or in the application portal. Application deadlines may be extended in some cases.

We recommend that you compile your application documents and upload them to the uni-assist portal well before the end of the application deadline. By submitting your application documents early, you can be notified of any missing documents and submit them in time before the application deadline expires.

Follow the instructions in the uni-assist application portal (external link) and check if you meet the admission requirements.

After registration, select the university in the 'My assist' online portal of uni-assist, in this case the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin, as well as your desired course of study, and go through the application portal.

Read all questions carefully, answer them, gather your documents, and upload all required documents (school leaving certificates, grade overviews, study records if applicable, etc.). The documents do not need to be submitted to uni-assist by post in officially certified form.

Officially certified photocopies only need to be sent in case of admission during enrollment at the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin.

You must complete the entire application portal at uni-assist and answer all questions. This is the only way to ensure that your information can be considered for the allocation process. Pay attention to the application deadlines.

The application is submitted by paying the processing fees for the application. The application will only be reviewed after the processing fees have been paid.

Submit documents in a timely manner so that you can be notified of any missing documents and can submit them within the application deadlines.

International applicants who have not acquired their higher education entrance qualification in a German-speaking country or who have gained the qualification abroad must have educational certificates for higher education entrance in accordance with the assessment proposals of the Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen (ZAB – Central Office for Foreign Education), which thus correspond to a higher education entrance qualification for the intended degree program. You can find out about the assessment of your educational certificates in the database 'anabin' ('Schulabschlüsse mit Hochschulzugang' / 'School-leaving qualifications with access to higher education') (see below in the downloads and links section).

The following application documents must also be submitted to the EHB as part of the application procedure:

• Certificate of higher education entrance qualification from the home country with the corresponding lists of grades or certificate of the assessment test from the Studienkolleg (preparatory college courses) and the foreign educational certificates listed on the certificate as well as the corresponding official German translations, Diploma Supplement
• Proof of sufficient German language skills.

Proof is provided, for example, by passing:

• the 'Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber*innen Ebene-2 oder Ebene-3' (DSH-2 or DSH-3 / German Language Examination for the Admission of Foreign Applicants to Higher Education),
• the test result of the Test 'Deutsch als Fremdsprache für Studienbewerber*innen' (TestDaF / German as a Foreign Language for University Applicants) with a performance level of 'four' (TDN 4) or 'five' (TDN 5) in all four sub-tests,
• the successfully passed 'Goethe-Zertifikat C 2: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom' (GDS – Goethe Certificate C 2: Advanced German Language Skills Diploma) or
• a certificate confirming that you have passed the examination 'telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule' (telc German C1 for Universities).

The language certificate must be submitted latest by the application deadline!

Please note: For the undergraduate degree programs (Bachelor's degree programs) it is possible to apply with the language level B 2 (completed) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and to provide one of the certificates listed above after successful enrolment. In these cases, admission is subject to the proof that you have provided.

Uni-assist charges processing fees for handling applications. You must pay these fees when you submit your application through uni-assist ('My assist'). Uni-assist begins processing your application after the payment is received. The amount of the processing fee is listed on the uni-assist website (external link).

You will be informed of the result after uni-assist has reviewed your application documents:

If your documents are complete and you meet the admission requirements:
Uni-assist will electronically forward your data and documents to the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin for further processing; the notification from uni-assist is not yet an admission for a study place. After forwarding, the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin will first inform you via email. You will then receive further information through the application portal of the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin. You will be able to track the status of your application (for example: 'valid application' or 'admission offer available' or 'admission offer currently not possible').

If your documents are not complete:
Uni-assist will not forward your data and documents to the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin. You will receive detailed information about which documents are missing or incomplete, and you will have the opportunity to submit missing documents within the application deadline. If your application remains incomplete, you can reapply for a later semester.
